Wal-Mart & Inner City Multiracial Models??
Connections are often surprising and usually interesting -- once you know the whole story.
OK, here's the deal. Black Men was launched in 1998 and billed as the first urban men's lifestyle magazine. It included a suave, upscale fantasy of life in the inner city, hip-hop music reviews, mens fashion spreads and layouts of bikini-clad women. Black Men introduced a new sort of "girl-next-door" -- an exotic multiracial model with all the glamor of the Hollywood of the past.
Now hold that thought and let's consider the hip-hop music and fashion market.

Wal-Mart and the Hip-Hop Culture
The timing for Black Men could not have been better -- and the decision to avoid nudity could not have been wiser.
The previously urban-only market for hip-hop clothes and music was rapidly moving out into small town America to white males. What better location to find that market than America's largest retailer, Wal-Mart. Everybody goes to Wal-Mart, especially in small towns. With no nudity, this magazine and the others it inspired (King, Smooth, XXL, F.E.D.S.,and Show) all could be found on the shelves of Wal-Mart.
But would this new target market accept the bigger booties that appealed to African-American men?
"Buffie the Body"
Buffie answered the question.
And the answer was a resounding "YES!"
The 5'7" coffee-brown beauty (34-27-45) from Athens, GA was an instant success and set the bar for urban glamor girls. Yes, "Buffie the Body" is included in the more than sixty models in Huang's book.

Your writing is good...but what's with the content? I think you can do better than this. What is the point of this article?
FC Etier - Probably a very useful article here. I shows lots of reasons why folks who live out in the country don't go into the cities any more than they really have to. Also, if Howard Huang did all of the photos, how come he looks so sad, or scared, or tired?
Gus ;-)
Interesting!!!
I guess I hardly look at the book and magazines at the stores anymore. I usually get my reading material through the library or amazon.
I see that my note was not deleted as I suggested, but I stand by what I said. You are a good writer, but you stooped a little here.
It reads like a documentary BUTT there isn't a lot of story-line. BUTT to be honest I can't see the motorcycles. BUTT if you could moves the BUTTS just BUTT, I mean just a BITT!
Life is a cafeteria.. Take what you want and pass by what you do not want...
Walmart is great, isn't it? People flock to it like donkeys and if this is what they get - I think they deserve it. I don't know, I have been in a Wallmart twice in my life about fifteen years ago being the last time.
I think this is a very interesting hub - I'm glad to see you didn't delete it - we all have different tastes. I haven't seen this in the Walmart near my home but will take a look next time I stop in. I'm curious to see if it is a big seller down here in South Florida, I imagine it would be.
I wasn't aware of these magazines and I wouldn't have been looking at them anyway but I can see where some men would like them. I could have done without that last picture in particular.

This hub ..ugh....it may be not be full nudity, but my goodness...it's awful close. The last one is practically porn.I wasn't expecting this, and wish I did not see this,as it is not my kind of reading material. You will probably want to delete this, that's perfectly okay.
