Michael Vick -- in the news again!

Michael Vick - BET & Subway
Last week, Michael Vick was named as the recipient of the 2011 BET (Black Entertainment Television) "Sportsman of the Year" award.
The announcement was greeted with fervent responses from both supporters and detractors. Few people found themselves in the middle on this issue. Many feel that Vick should be forgiven and let bygones be bygones. Others feel, like one commentor said, "God can forgive him, but I can't."
Subway and Nike have found themselves in the cross-hairs of public opinion as well as the BET Network. Racism is also rearing it's head as many feel that just as in the O. J. Simpson trial, racial attitudes override a sense of fair play.
What would Pete Rose say?
While it remains to be seen if Michael Vick will earn the right to be included in the NFL Hall of Fame, Pete Rose is still excluded from the MLB Hall of Fame.
According to the most recent update on WikiPedia, Rose will NEVER be allowed to enter the MLB HOF. So, we are left to ponder the question (if Vick should be allowed admission the the NFL HOF) -- "Is it worse to gamble on the outcome of the game itself? -- or the winner of a dog fight?"
So what happens to the dogs?
Is Michael Vick's slate clean?
- Is Michael Vick's Slate Clean?
My thoughts on Vick's situation and public perception. Can we get past the past and hold Mr. Vick up to our children as an example of exemplar behavior? Can we point to him as the prototype of a "Hero"?

Well, maybe it isn't officially a "viral" article, but it's gotten almost 600 "shares" on Facebook in less then twelve hours. In my wife's experience, that's the closest thing she's had to a post "going viral."
So, what do you think?

I don't think racism has anything to do with this Michael Vick thing. I think it was horrible what he did with the fighting dogs. A part of me does not want to forgive him. But, I think he deserves a second chance to redeem himself. But, I don't believe in third chances. Vick has a chance to prove he has learned a valuable lesson. As for Pete Rose; I don't know if he has ever admitted to gambling on Cincy Red games. If he has, then he also deserves a chance to redeem himself. But, again, no third chances.
FC, A bum is a bum, there is no attachment to race! H
Great article on great ending question. Voted up.
It actually is about race in the context that Vick himself called dogfighting a part of the black culture. That may be true because cockfighting is a part of the Hispanic culture as is bullfighting.
Many in today's white culture go the other way, including drives to outlaw hunting and even outlawing the use of animals at all, including for food and leather.

Why is race thrown into every event? It is a distraction from judging circumstances.
